I thought that it might be interesting for people to post what the rating is and why they choose it, or what rating they think is the best and why. What is it in the day to day stuff that makes you really love you rate?

I think MST rating is the best. Well besides supervising people that scrub ducks, inspecting foreign and domestic vessels, making sure our local shoreside facilities are up to par, supervising the clean up of those nasty spills that happen, and well filling any spot in the CG that is needed...MST's are awesome.

Being an MK is the most satisfying job in the CG. Every operational hour the CG accrues is because of us. No one gets rescued, drugs don't get stopped, and humanitarian aid can't be delivered if the cutters and small boats aren't running hard, fast, and clean.

There is very little more satisfying than standing between the MDEs (main diesel engines) on an 87' and listening to the quad turbos come up, and knowing it's your effort and expertise that make it happen.

MKs - Makin' the BMs look good since 1790.

Lol! Whatever Gears! Your boat may purr like a kitten but it ain't leaving the pier without a BM at the helm.

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.

BF, my boats growl like ill-tempered jungle cats.

Remember kids, the most dangerous part of a boat is the NUT behind the wheel.

TXCG, I'll bet you $5 it was a BM who taught him/her how to drive that boat! ;) And Gears, your boats growl like the old lion the MGM kept in a cage in the front lobby!

TXCG, I'll bet $5 that MST is a better Cox'n than the BM who taught him.

BF, my boats growl like... yeah I got nothin'. You win this battle, but the war is far from over.

All these guys are CRAZY!  OS is obviously the best rating!  No one else gets to say that they are a "specialist" in the CG :p

Yeah, when my chair breaks you guys (about 4 of you...an MKC, MK1, and 2 MK3) with all sorts of tools when only one is needed, a power drill, jackhammer, and service manual for all chairs in the CG and it will still take you until lunch to fix

    Gears, LOL!

    Chuckles,
I didn't realize you were AET. Would you mind posting what you think about AET rating... maybe some of these questions:
Why you picked it, what you loved and hated about it, best mission you went on, pretty much why it's better than any other rate :)

    or pm me.

    Thanks!

When you are considering a career in aviation keep on thing in mind. There are more helicopters in the water than there are boats in the sky.

It's just me. I'm the only person in the CG that has a sense of humor.

When you are considering a career in the hull of a boat keep one thing in mind. There are more SAR missions for sinking boats vs sinking helicopters.

Not an appropriate comparison. (A) is often traveling at a high rate of speed if it contacts the water. This makes living long enough to drown problematic. If (A) survives the impact, its time to sink is typically measured in seconds, whereas for (B) it is typically measured in hours.

Of course, this only applies to accidents. If enemy action is involved, then the playing field is pretty much level.<!-- Edit -->

    Wep,

You're response is both well thought out and articulate. Your insight has no equal.

But, the bottom line is this... The engines on my boat stop turning (like that'd ever happen) we row home. The rotor on a helo stops turning... and gravity becomes a serious issue.
