My son just returned from bootcamp.  He would like to buy a car and has decided to join USAA for the banking and insurance.  How does he go about getting his check direct deposited into the USAA account?  I've seen on here that most miliatary use mypay or something like that??  I thought he'd have to wait to get to his first station and see the payroll person there to get it set up, am I correct or not??  Any help would be appreciated.....Thanks!

He should let his supervisor know as soon as soon as he checks in, they will be able to help him.

Once he has access he should be able to set up the direct deposit in Direct Access. His supervisor should be able to help him. It can take a couple of weeks for the change to catch up, so keep the old account active.

Colin joined USAA during his 5 days leave at home. He changed the paperwork once he got to his ship and I think it was within 1, maybe 2, pay periods his check was going to USAA.

Also, my son got a car in DEC right after he got out of basic. He banks with Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union and he had to be employed with the CG 4 months to get the loan in his name and put 20% down (used vehicle that had to have less than 80,000 miles. We ended up being primary and him the co-borrower. they do automatic draft out of his account. I just hope they are reporting it to the credit bureau under his SS# too, so it can build his credit. His insurance a month is just as much as his payment (state farm). That was the lowest by far.

Thanks so much. He leaves tomorrow so will call USAA today and he'll talk to his supervisor when he reports to his station tomorrow. I'm sure his insurance will be pretty high also but he has saved up for the car so luckily he won't need a loan. All this paperwork and banking is overwhelming him a bit, all stuff that I used to take care of!! LOL

That's pretty intense for a loan rokihunter. When I bought my first bought a car, without my parents help I put 20% down and that was it, no co-borrower or anything. I've got issues with buying vehicles, I'm 22 and I have owned 8, currently own 3, BUT in my defense one of them is my dream car! Oh and btw, its for sale...:D

My son just bought a used truck through the usmiles program and they only require a $500 downpayment, but he put alot more. He didn't have a credit score, because he has never financed anything or had a credit card. They put the loan in his name and did not require a co-signer. The interest rate was a little high but the dealer told him to refinance it in about 6-9 months with a credit union and that would lower his rate and payment. Payments are taken out of his check automatically. He did all the paperwork and the miles representative at the dealer's was very helpful and really, really got him a good deal. Thanks to whoever posted about this program a few months ago. He's so happy with his ((new)) truck.
