My sister suggested that I keep up a blog while underway on my next patrol as she is a frequent blogger herself. I won't be able to say where we are or what our mission is..but I can give all you future recruits insight on what it's like on a 378 day to day underway. That being said...who's interested?

    Would it read like this....

    0600- Woke up.
    0610- Got in the shower.
    0611- Finished my shower.
0630- Ate morning chow, it was bland.
    0715- Reported to watch.
0900- Thought I saw something, it was nothing.
0915- Listened to the BM1 tell sea stories.
    1145- Secured my watch.
1200- Ate noon chow, tasted like morning chow
1230- Held quarters on the flight deck. A bird landed on my head.
1231- BM1 said the bird is endangered so leave it alone.
    1310- The bird flew away.
    1311- Took another shower.
    1312- Finished my shower.
1313- Dodged the BM3 by hiding in the anchor locker.
1730- Woke up from nap/work detail in the anchor locker.
1735- Ate evening chow, tasted like noon chow.
1800- Listened to the BM1 tell more sea stories.
    1930- Reported to watch.
    2345- Secured my watch.

    Repeat this for 6-9 weeks...

I look forward to tomorrow, Gears!

Are you able to inform us when you are going underway next and for approximately how long? I want to know because I want to be on your boat =P

I would be interested in reading the blog, however it might be a little boring without any information whatsoever. Depending on how much information you are able to divulge, it would make a huge difference. Are you able to write that you boarded a vessel and ceased drugs, if you do not say what substance, what ocean, or what vessel?

It all begins February 16th 2010!

    Levyii,

All joking aside, it's a great idea. Run it by your Chain of Command. The CO from CGC Boutwell had a blog. It was updated with notable moments from the patrol.

I will do that Gears. Usually we can write home about stuff after it has happened. We have a lot of other random things that go on our boat. we made two videos of our trip to Japan and China. Once it gets started I'll post the link on here. Being a Nav BM I get a great outsiders view to all the other departments, I always know where we are going before the crew and that makes for some light hearted rumors to be spread. I'll see what I can include in it. Glad to see some are interested.

    Levyii,

I like the idea! A small glipmse into your world would be fun! :) I would read it, especially since I know the author! That would make it more interesting than a random blog from someone I don't know.

If you write it I will read it. OPSEC will make it kind of hard to write about some stuff, but I am interested to know what's it like. I think it's a great idea.

On a side note, I wouldn't be too concerned about no information in there because of OPSEC. for those of you not even in yet, you have no idea the shenanigans that go on while underway. Pictures of port calls and the such. I can write about a lot more than just the reason why we are out there. We had a line crossing ceremony on our last one and while I wouldn't have been able to give details, there's ways of writing about it that make it still sound interesting. PLUS, my boat does an edition called Rush Hour and I can post the link to that which has all sorts of fun info on it. trust me, I'll make it as exciting to read as I can. Open your minds folks!

    yep....you know it!!!

and there is a lot to write about in a given day. the day revolves around much more than longitude and latitude and opsec regulations. there are people on a boat.....characters and personalities all blending and mixing together. and i do know they make plenty of dance-off videos while underway. michelle is good with language.....it will make for interesting reading!!

looking forward to it! and i like what you have up already! keep up the good work!

I'd be interested in reading a blog, too. When Nikole was up north recently onboard Polar Sea for a science trip, the deck department kept an online journal. It's pretty cool. Here's the link in case anybody is interested.

That is kind of how I hope my journal will be. There is so much to put in there without every worrying about breaking opsec. My goal is to have a few non rates write down a journal entry and put it in my blog as well. That way you guys can see all sides of it.
