        I am in the final steps of obtaining my 6-pack license.I have all that is required.The final step is going to Oakland Ca. to be fingerprinted (live scan).My question is,,,,Is a test required? I have been told by fellow guides that I will have to take a test.The person at the Coast Guard I spoke with did not mention this.I want to be prepared before I travel 600 miles.Please someone out there give me some information...Thank you,,Ronsmhair

    Hey Ron,

    When I took my OUPV license (wasn't the fishing guide license) we had to take a classroom test, after the 2 week 'after work' course (30+ hours of classroom time). This test lasted approx 2hrs, and was multi choice.
    The test basically covers what you would have learnt in the classroom.

    I'm in NJ but I'm guessing every state is the same, You need to pass a USCG test which consist of 4 parts, If you haven't study for this I wouldn't make the trip untill totally prepared call your local USCG headquaters and get all the information first.
