    Hey guys,
Does anyone know how moving works? Me and my wife are going to be moving to my first station, PAX River in Maryland. How does the process work? What do we have to take with us? What do the movers take? Has anyone's movers ever gotten their belongings lost? do we take our cars? Also, who moves us? Does CG have its own moving company or do they use a outside company? Any answers would be helpful. And if you have any advice to make this easier, let me know. Also, if we live on base, what about pets?

Ok wow the CG leaves it's newbies out to dry hu... Ok here is the deal. You either one need to talk to the admin person where you are leaving from so that you can find out if they are going to set-up your household goods shipment OR if you needed to go to the Household good office at the nearest other miltiary base. The household goods departments sets you up with a date to move, the movers pack all your household, now what you have to do take all your pictures dwon off of the walls and, unplug all electric items. DO NOT PACK ANYTHING YOURSELF. When admin sets you up with the move you want to do a partical dity, that way all the weight that you carry in your cars will be paid for. This way you make a little money too. You have to drive your own car since you are staying state side. You will be reimbursed for mileage, and food (per-diem) for each day of allowed travel that you have. I advise that you get full replacement value on you items that the goverment moves. That way if they are lost or stolen you get more of yourmoney back for replacement of those items. The goverment does offer insurance FREE but they depreacite all your items. With the full replacement value you the full value replaced not matter the age of the item(s). Things do get lost or damaged but it's not all the time. Better to be safe than sorry. You have to transport your own pets too they will not accomdate that with-in the CONUS. Now you should get 10day permissive TAD to find housing. If you have a pet and, plan to live in housing make sure that you let housing know that before you sign the lease, sue to the fact that certian area don't allow pets. Othern than fish and bird.
Now if you do a full dity move that means you have to get your own moving truck, pack and, move all your own stuff. If you opt for this option ask for all your moving expenxes to be advaced to you. It may be in the form of travelers checks our direct depostied into your checking or savings where your pay goes. If you ask for an advance then you need to do it ASAP. Time is of the esscences.
