i don't believe there is a tracen in norfolk. i believe it is yorktown you are thinking of. volunteering opportunities with be provided to you by your class instructors.

Hey Bob, The TRACEN is in Yorktown. Norfolk is Navy... In the area I am not too sure about volunteering, we were told we COULD volunteer for stuff but nothing ever came up. I am sure you can talk to your class advisor and they will be able to help you.

Jen I agree! I feel the need to chime in on this one. I am also just curious how there is time to be bored at A School. My son was more than busy. He is still there, and is finally reaching a point where he actually has some free time at night or on the weekends. Before this it seemed like he was extremely busy all the time studying, duty, etc. |

Hey Bob, I know what you mean about being in a strange place, not familiar with the area and not really sure what to do with yourself during your off time. One of my daughters went to A School in Petaluma....they rarely had "homework" so she had some down time and I think she was bored sometimes, too. And she couldn't really hang with her classmates because they were all over 21 and went out partying every night. She was barely 18 so going with them wasn't an option.....and I don't think she would have gone even if she could. Anyway, it's good that your class advisor gave you some options. My oldest daughter went to A School in Yorktown.....not sure how much volunteer work she did, if any.....but I'll ask her. Maybe she'd have some ideas for you. Good luck! Laurie

I was bored as hell in A-school, I'm not gonna lie. I had no reason to study....it kinda came natural to me and I learned everything through "doing"
Oh and volunteer all you can, its how you get honor graduate of your class.....
that among other things......britt will know what im talking about...
Sorry, just a little bitter still :D

When did that change, husband? I was honor grad of my class. The only thing I volunteered for was the Drill Team so I could get out of standing duty. Other than that I studied, worked out, and avoided the E-Club like bubonic plague.

a-school depending on the school and the student is up in the air as far as studying goes. i understand all of that. lol my point was..... how can you be in the military and stationed at a base for a minimum of eight weeks and have no idea of your location and what the name of the town is? i just don't get it!!

i could understand that in petaluma. only because where the base is it is actually called two rock. but in yorktown.. umm thats kind of a significant place in american history.. heck the base in built on the old battlefields. well that and norfolk is over 45 min away from yorktown which is also very odd he would call it norfolk.

I would have to agree with you Britt lol. Yorktown is an awesome area for history and in a short scenic drive you have Williamsburg and Jamestown. I was bored in A-school and I went through MST a-school which if any of you know isn't the easiest of the schools. You do your homework, study as much as you can and then you are bored. Bob there is a mall and other things to do around there if you like history. I probably drove around that place a million times looking at the historic things around the area.

I'm sorry ive been here for three weeks. yes the first two were studying every night till late specially since we got here on presidents day and we had to make up for missing a day. Im used to calling it yorktown because on my old cutter everyone told me thats were it was till I looked it up and I constantly mixed up norfolk and yorktown for some reason. anyways my evenings are opening up and im 21 but I want to avoid trouble so im staying away from any of that nature. So I was just wondering oof any oppurtunities. Im doing something this saturday at the watermans museum I believe. But any more ideas would be appriciated. thanks |

Go take a look at all the battlefields and museums around there man. If you can go check out Williamsburg it is pretty cool if you like America's history.

Can you leave A-school at night or on the weekends and stay out or do you have to sleep in the barracks. I live about an hour from Yorktown and it would be nice to sleep at my house and see my wife. |
