So, my family has been running sled dog teams since before I was born. So, I thought it was really neat that this year the Coast Guard is sponsoring Ken Anderson in the 2010 Iditarod (the big sled dog race across Alaska ) which starts tomorrow morning.

There will be updates on his progress across Alaska on coastguard.dodlive.mil/, www.iditarod.com and www.windycreekkennel.com/

The race usually takes 9-14 days.<!-- Edit -->

That is really cool. We were never able to get to Anchorage to see the start of the Iditarod but every year we went to Anchorage for the Fur Rendezvous, sort of the pre-cursor to the big show! :) I remember when we lived in Bells Flats on Kodiak... there was only 1 television station at the time, RATNET (Rural Alaska Television Network) and they would interrupt shoes with Iditarod updates! LOL

Thanks for posting that, I would never have looked for something like that.

Well done Ken!!! In a 1,100 mile race 4th place is very admirable.

He finished with 10 dogs in 9 days, 6 hours, 25 minutes, and 23 seconds.

Wow, very nice finish! :) Way to go Ken & Coast Guard!
