    Hello,

I am 33 y/o and 8 yrs prior service with one year that we got activated. My MOS was 91 B(w) medical specialist.  I am looking to return to service because I miss it.  I had an ID card since I was 17 y/o and to not have one now is like forgetting my wallet were ever I go.  When I was going into the army guard I thought about going coast guard but for what ever reason I didn't.  I would like to go active duty but the silly age limit means I can only go reserve....then maybe active that way.  I spoke with a recruiter yesterday and I have an appointment on Mon to get the ball rolling.  Now I have been made aware that my job isn't in need now and I do not mind changing jobs.  ( I have been a medic for eight years mil and 3 civilian)  I am however not sure on what would be a good career choice I believe I was told only OS, GM, and Electricians mate were availible to me at this time, depending on my asvab score. (which I have to retake)  I guess what I am asking is which of these jobs is most desireable.  Does anyone here do any of them what do you think and can I still go HS even if it isn't in desperate need right now?

    Thanks.

    KD

Hey KD, don't be so quick to bite the hands that feed you. Have you considered the CGAUX.? You can be as active as you want with CG training just like the Regs. The work is volunteer with awards for pay but you have the satisifaction of helping others and saving lives. You carry a ID card and get in of some of the old "perks" too, such as commisary shopping, working with the regular and reserve guys diong simular tasks. Involvement is what you make it and you will be multiplying the CG force while serving.

Well KD, had I seen your post earlier I would certainly have responded. Unfortunately, posts such as your first one have been popping up in the General Chat section. I hadn't checked under this particular heading. Your second post won't win you any friends but I understand your frustration.

Don't jump too quick to conclusions over the age limitations. You might want to contact a recruiter in your area to check the feasibility of going active. Your specialty may or may not be in demand which could mean a waiver for the age limit.

Also, I recently learned the Army, for one, is offering even us old retired folks full-time, active duty reserve time with full pay (even while collecting our retired pay!) to serve. Wow. Double dipping to the extreme. Along these lines it makes me wonder if the age limitations are being waived on a regular basis. Check it out with a recruiter.

    Good luck.
