    i don't know about anyone else but i am so honored to be able to be a part of the coast guard and i can not wait to begin the wonderful journey as a coastie. i wish i was in the south to help out with the oil spill and i would do anything to make sure someone else is safe before me. I have so much respect for the united states coast guard and i will be in it for as long as i can. Semper Paratus.. Love you all i hope that maybe one day to meet a lot of you guys cool

    Hi Marto

    You are from Malden - so you must have gone to the local recruiting office in town?  How long did you have to wait to take the asvab, etc. before knowing if you could sign up?  My real question is did you start this process with the recruiter before AD was closed? My son is a senior in high school & visited the local office as you did in Feb, called back in March & was told to sit tight,study and call back in June or July when hopefully things open up.

    Hey Newburyport i started my process in December after i got back from my first semester of college. I wanted Active duty but it was closed. I went December 6thish and i scheduled my ASVAB for January 14th because of work and family. After that it took 2 months to get clearance and the okay to get ME rating and only a week to get a date for boot camp. From what i heard in February they closed down the Fy'10 for reserve and active but i could be wrong. I hope everything works out for your son.

    Also don't drink that Tap hah. My Mom and Dad just got like 50 gallons of Poland spring ..
