Ok, I'm pretty set in my decision, so this is more of a mini-rant than anything.


Originally, I was going to put in for this summer's OCS panel. And well, that's not happening. So I'm now hoping to enlist instead. For me, I think I'll be happy either way. I do hope to make officer someday, but I also want to do the hand-on, dirty work.

The way my recruiter explained it, if I enlist in the fall, I'll still be able to put in for the winter OCS panel, or any thereafter.

That all seems like a good plan to me.

Friends and family, however have other ideas. So many well meaning people are telling me that I should just hold out until OCS opens up again. I don't know what they expect me to do in the mean time... Personally, I'd rather be at the bottom of the chain in the CG than working at some fast food job wasting time.

Ok, just had to get that out.

Fiscal Year '11... here I come!

You have the right idea. Not to mention if you enlist, you might actually stand a better shot at getting picked up for OCS. The CG likes to promote from within. I know in one of the recent selection boards they only took 3 civilians into OCS. You get the pay, the experience, the friendships and then keep moving up the ranks. There are a lot of Mustangs in the CG. Don't let family & friends talk you out of something and then you end up regretting it. Only allow you to talk yourself into and out of things.
