Ok I have a question! My Boyfriend is in BC and got stationed on the CGC MELLON.
The Mellon is having a "Tiger Cruise" in August. Does anyone know the qualifications for a "close family member"?

It's usually up to the member. Whomever he or she wants to be there.

Colin's ship has had 3 tiger cruises since he has been there. The rules on his ship... no girl/boyfriends, no spouses, no children under 10. So he will need to check the rules on his ship.

My dad did get to go on an overnight with the ship & loved it. (Colin's grandfather)

It's where dependent's get to go underway with the ship for anywhere from a few hours to an overnight. Not all ships do them. The morale committee on each ship recommends it to the CO, and he or she decides on it.

The tiger cruise I tried to get on, no female billets available though so I couldn't go... I could have sailed with the ship from Boston, stop in Cape Cod for helo operations, then sail to Miami. You are 100% responsible for all travel to the ship and home again. But to be able to sail with your son/daughter on their ship & see what daily life is truly all about on the ship... I would have paid any amount of money!!!!

My daughter will report to the Dallas next week in Charleston straight out of boot camp. Can she begin her qualification training or will she have to wait until the Dallas is afloat in port sometime in August?
A curious parent....

She will be able to get started immediately on her quals. Much of what she has to learn doesn't require the Cutter to be underway.

The Dallas is still in drydock? Colin had a hard time with a couple of quals getting done in drydock but he was able to get a lot done. So she might not be able to get 100% done but she should be able to get 95% completed. Best of luck to her on the Dallas.

As long as there is a qualified person to sign her quals, she can get started right away.

we are in drydock and are working very hard to get our new ME3, SN, SNBM qualified as QMOW. Most training can be done without ever getting underway. They are going to want them to stand the watch for a while before they take their test. There is a difference between trying to run the logs, run the radio, and help the deck and conn during a 10ft migrant interdiction.

Just don't get fat at drydock

Hey Oneaquachick, how did your BF like the Mellon?  Mine is in BC now and was just stationed there. Tell me anything you know - I still have BC recruit anxiety and I just got the robotic phone call telling me where he was going. lol.
