Sorry to hear you are unhappy Carissamarie, What have you done to attempt to make it a better station? |
|
| I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords. I'd like to remind them that as a trusted Coastie, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves. |

Kodiak can be extremely boring. But it can also be extremely rewarding. There are far more activities on base then there were when we were stationed there. There is bowling, hiking, kayaking, crafting, clubs... There just aren't malls. There is still a million times more shopping when we were there. We had the commissary/exchange, O'Kraft & Sons, Wodlingers and Sutliffs! HAHA I was actually there the night the Safeway opened, I was even on the local radio describing the strawberry shortcake I was buying. I don't know who was listening, I think the entire town was there!! LOL I also had the same phone number as wodlingers, they 486, we were 487. Oh brother the calls I would get asking if prescriptions were ready! |

My son is there and seems to enjoy it. But he's an outdoorsy kind of guy. He goes mtn biking, when it's not too windy or raining... which, now that I think about it, isn't very often, lol. I think he's said somethign about hiking Barometer, too. Oh, and the photo opportunities! Great place to be into photography! As far as work goes, he says duty driving is a riot. He likes being stationed up there, for the most part. My California boy only complains about the weather... and they are heading into the winter months. We'll see what he thinks about Kodiak after his first winter there! |

Well I have said it before, I moved there in December! Poor Jimmy, I made his life such a living hell. Winter, cold, dark, I was only 19, first time EVER away from home for Christmas... I'm surprised our marriage lasted as long as it did because he probably should have divorced me by January! But then something amazing happened... Spring! OMG, sunshine all the time, it really warmed up, there were beautiful blue skies, the greenest grass/fields I think I have ever seen in my life, it was just so amazing. So tell him when the winter blues sets in, spring is really only a couple of months away and it will be just as amazing!!! But the winter can be difficult at best! |

haha. Duty driving (usually at night) is when you get the job of picking up Coasties from the bars in town. |

Sounds like it could either be quite enjoyable or a big nuisance, depending on if they can walk to the car or not... |
