Can we bring our camera and leave it in our storage? I know we can't take pictures during boot camp but I was wondering for graduation.

You would probably be better off having a family member bring your camera with them to graduation.

You will get it back the night before graduation... but you will not be able to carry it to graduation. I'm not sure if you would be allowed to take pictures that night before or not... That's a really interesting question!! At graduation you are full spit & polish & creases & perfect so a camera would stick out like a sore thumb.

I do like the idea of getting it back when you get your personal stuff & maybe being able to take some candd shots of shipmates a night or two before graduation. :) We'll have to look into that...

But, if you won't have family attending your gradutation, I don't see why you couldn't store it with your personal stuff during boot camp, like a cell phone. The problem is that you wouldn't get to use it until after the graduation ceremony. From there you'd have to run and get it, then run back and hope to find all your friends to take pictures when there will be several hundred people and hope you can find them all. You wouldn't have pictures of the ceremony itself unles someone else from the audience took them.

The point is you will not be able to carry a camera to graduation with you. They do sell disposable in the exchange but again it will be back in the barracks. I'm sure you can have a shipmate's mom take extra pictures for you and be sure to visit the booth where they sell the DVD's of graduation! You can always buy that and then have everything on a DVD for yourself. :)

You're not allowed to have a camera in the barracks or take pictures of anything inside the barracks. If you get caught you would probably be reverted to a forming company. When you graduate you're not even allowed to bring family members in the barracks when you return to grab your belongings. When you get on and off base liberty in later weeks of training, your CC's will most likely recommend to buy a disposable camera to take pictures while on liberty. When you return to the squad bay you have to wrap it up in masking tape and put your name on it and it will be stored in your CC's office until you graduate.

I went into the barracks after graduation, so did my father and so did many other family members. We didn't go into the actual squad bays, we went into something like a "holding room" that was huge & empty except for all the graduates belongings. But there were many of us in there and we all got to look at the ships wheel that was there and different things on that main level hallway and one room area.

Yep you're allowed on the quarterdeck but you cannot go into any of the squad bays. Our CCs made it clear that you need to get your family in and out and they should only be in there if they are helping you move your stuff so they didn't interfere with companies in previous weeks of training.

One of the classes came in while we were there and the graduates started cheering for them and all of us, as parents, just stepped back and allowed them through the doors.
