    Hey there everyone.

    My name is Jake Gilfillan, 23, from Stockton, California. I'm really just another guy waiting to serve, doing everything I can to make myself competitive and get my situation together. Originally talked to a recruiter in November of last year, she said to get back in contact in August, but from what I've read the time is now.

    I've been reading this board for a while and just wanted to give my thanks for such a useful place to share information.

    good luck with everything. Join Auxiliary while you're waiting. You'll gain TONS of practical knowledge and experience! Stay motivated and out of trouble.

    Thank you all for the kind words.

    Unfortunately, the economy has finally caught up to me and I have lost my job, and am now working a minimum wage job for the first time in my life. It's a hard thing to do, but sadly I will not be financially stable enough to continue to wait for an opportunity to join the US Coast Guard.

    It's time for me to make a decision to either go back to school and hope I graduate before age 27, or do my part to my country in a different branch of the armed forces thus forfeiting any real chance of joining the Coast Guard.

    Once again I'd like to say how much I appreciate this forum, the people on it, and the information presented here.
