The San Diego Padres announced today the first of six games honoring the local military community and recognizing each branch of the Armed Forces. This Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals (May 30 at 1:05 p.m.) will pay tribute to members of the U.S. Navy.
Sunday's Navy celebration will be the first game of a six-game Military Appreciation Series, presented by USAA. During each game of the series, fans can expect to hear patriotic music and service hymns and view special tributes to that day's honored branch. On Sunday, Petty Officer 1st Class JJ Gentry will sing the national anthem and "God Bless America" as the Padres celebrate his own branch of service. There will be a special pre-game ceremony honoring members of the local Navy community and welcoming some of San Diego's newest units.
The five remaining games in the Military Appreciation Series, presented by USAA will honor the U.S. Army (June 14), U.S. Marine Corps (July 18), U.S. Coast Guard (July 28), California National Guard (August 25) and U.S. Air Force (September 8).
Members of the military who purchase discounted tickets for their branch recognition game will receive a complimentary Padres military logo cap with each ticket.
Members of the general public who want to support our military community can purchase discounted tickets online to each of the six games (www.padres.com/promo, code: FISHER). A portion of the ticket price will go to Fisher House, which provides free or low-cost lodging to veterans and military families receiving treatment at military medical centers. All funds raised through the Military Appreciation Series, presented by USAA will go to the local Fisher House chapter at Naval Medical Center San Diego.
As the "Team of the Military" the San Diego Padres are continuously expanding their military programs and looking for new ways to recognize the military community. To that end, this season the Padres unveiled their new military logo, based on the official United States military aircraft roundel. Also new this season is the introduction of the Padres Veterans Appreciation Card, which entitles the holder to special military discounts on Padres tickets. Additionally, Padres players show their support for the Armed Forces by visiting local military bases throughout the season.
