I must say .... I am a fan of both ADM Loy and ADM Allen. I was on the phone with my mother one night during the BP crisis and she said, "I sure do like ADM. Thad Allen." Despite the negative lashback he received from many, I thought he did a fine job. That's such a sweet story! How is Colin doing? Has he chosen a rate? |

Colin will be home on Saturday! I can't wait, I'm so looking forward to him coming home. He has always thought about OS but he has finally decided that is absolutely what he wants. So hopefully now he'll get to A school and be a happy OS in a dark room watching blips, listening to static. |

That's awesome! I just viewed the list a few days ago and it's SHORT! So that's wonderful for him. I was thinking about OS myself. It's always been something I've been interested in... especially if I choose not to wait for HS. How often does he come home during the year? I have a few friends in OS and they love it. I hope it works out! |

This is the first time he will be home since he left for boot camp in February 09. I am ready for him to come home for a while. Of course he gets here Saturday & I leave Sunday for Wisconsin. I'll be there until Friday and then he heads back to Boston on Monday. Our visit will be short with each other but he is looking forward to some home time. Kyle, I do not! I just think the banner makers don't know what the CG emblem looks like! LOL I still love the flag and I'm glad someone remembers us. |

I have talked to Cracker barrels head quaters they said that the Coast Guard will not give them the right to selling. I thought they just get their supplier from distributers. |

KNoebels Grove amusement park in Pa has the CG flag flying along with the other service flags. It was great to see and I emailed them to tell them. I have a CG and US flag flying on the flagpole in front of my house. Hung it the day my son graduated from boot camp! |

Forget the stores, how about the local American Legion?!?! I was simply shocked today .... of all places! I moved back to IN last week in preparation of Cape May and decided to my "civic" duty and vote today. My tiny town of 1,000 people proudly displayed all of the flags with exception to the Coast Guard. We live on the state line and our local legion in IL has had theirs outdoors. Is that not ridiculous? |

I once spoke to a guy who had literally no idea what the coast guard was, thought nasa was a military branch. He also thought the army rangers were their own military branch separate from the army. Its just that people dont know. |

Wow, I haven't had a chance to catch up on the news. Thanks for the great info on CG books titles/authors. I'm looking forward to reading up on the USCG. I thought it was nice to receive and e-mail from Big Lots letting all active duty and veteran military know they would get a 10% discount on their entire purchase on Veteran's Day. The sale page has ALL of the military emblems on it and of course that made this mother of a Coastie very happy! noregrets, we are Bowling Green folks. It hasn't been until the Hotrods came to town and reminded everyone at the opening of their games that we had another branch called USCG that people have begun to perk up. You are correct, the smaller venues know about the CG. I guess it will be up to our families to make sure our town remembers and understands what the USCG is all about. Glad to know another CG parent! Our son is on the Wikipedia page for USCG. Kinda fun! HAPPY VETERAN"S DAY to all my CG friends. |

I'm loving that you're from Bowling Green! I miss it so much! I've only been back in IN for about two weeks and I'm already going stir crazy. The Hotrods opening sequence was wonderful.... definitely shows some good pictures of the CG. Wish I would've known of ya prior to moving back here. One of these days I'll definitely return to Bowling Green. I have never been in a better city. That's awesome your son is on there! Way to go! |
