Eyes in the boat. Respond correctly. Stand up straight. Sound the hell off. March with pride. Don't talk... Do what your told. Sense of urgency... Every second counts!

#1 tip is try to have fun! when you graduate and look back on it you'll realize how unique, how much of adventure it really was...

If you can learn how to shine boots, fold and iron your clothing before you go, that will def. be an advantage. Also, take basic seriously, think of it as your job interview for the guard. I saw at least 40 people get discharged from my company because they were acting childish/goofing around/making jokes at the wrong time/didn't own up to their mistakes.

40 people got discharged from a single company?? Are you sure? Average discharge is 3-5 people per company.

Something tells me the fish that got away was a world record barn door, too! 40 people just about make up entire companies at this point, don't they??? That would be a lonely graduation... 2 new Seaman Apprentice, that is all. WOW! Well your parents would have an excellent seat for both the movie and the graduation! LOL

40! Holy crap! We had 4 get discharged for various reasons. Mustang how many of the 40 were reverted and not actually discharged?

While I may be wrong, I strongly doubt that 40 combined were reverted or discharged.

So....maybe I was exagurating a bit. haha. Now that I think about it, We started out with about 90+ recruits, and it was probably around 25~30 that were reverted. Not discharged, sorry about that. It's been a while. 3 or 4 discharges though. We have the names of the people who got reverted on my company t-shirt, so I'll have a look at that later today. My CC's were pretty hard core and proud about it.

That number reverted still seems high. I will check tomorrow (currently not at office).

I remember asking people for advice and hearing "Sound off, keep you eyes in the boat and be fast" and trust me that's the best advice, Hell practice right now, the louder you are the better. And when you are in formation or in the galley just count the hairs on the persons head in front of you and don't look anywhere else.

all the advice you need has been given.........
    except
dont hesitate to go straight for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich as soon as your CC's will allow you. no one ever wants to be the very first in the company to get a PB+J, so drop yer n*tz, get up and go, set the example and everyone will follow. just dont walk the wrong way or you will be crushed immediately.

....from my Son's bootcamp experience (KILO 163, Nov 27,2002)...NEVER take the Snicker's bar "accidentally" left laying in open view on the Company Commander's desk. It was "bait", and the whole company gets to pay...on the beach, in the sand....until the guilty recruit confessed.(not my son).

Pepper, There has to be one of those in every company... a kid got reverted into my sons company because on watch one night, he took a bag of chips from the CC's desk. He was hungry and wanted a snack. After the punishment was doled out, he was sent packing a week back. You would think they would know better than to take "bait snacks"!

Best tip I can give you, is to trust your ears, and not your instincts. Do exactly what you are told to do, nothing more, and nothing less. Don't assume that you should do more than what is asked. If you follow instructions to the T, you will succeed.

I have a feeling these fools that take the snacks or candy bars or something else like that, should probably count themselves fortunate if all they get is extra hard IT or reversion! I iamgine using Core Values alone that could give them reason to toss their butts right out the gate!

We lived on the same quarterdeck crowtastic. and lets say romeo, your replacements are no where near the level you guys were when you left. and hahahaha our company commander told us the story about the potato chips when we got the class on sexton hall watch.

In Basic, always sound off, its one of the things that they'll always yell about, and one of the easiest things to be sent to ramp for, memorize your required knowledge, make friends with the watch coordinator, and stay under the radar. We had about 2 succesfully do it out of a graduated 31. We started with 40 lost 11 and gained 2.
I don't want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me.
