go figure, this is all over indiana news.

I remember reading awhile back that before Captain Stratton began her military career, she was on staff at Purdue, back in the 1930's. I believe she was an associate professor of psychology and also the first full-time dean of women the school had ever had. I imagine that's why you're hearing so much about this up your way. From what I've been able to figure out, she did some pretty impressive work at Purdue during the nine or so years she was there. Anyway, it would be cool to see one of the new cutters up close. Nikole and Danyell have been onboard the Bertholf, just for tours, not for work but both said it was pretty awesome.

growing up in indiana i know all about captain stratton. she is a bit of a legend in indiana.....so we are taught about her in history classes.

the coolness for me is actually picking up a newspaper and being able to read something of the coast guard news. we just don't get it here. even when something major happens, it is still rare for us to hear about it. i have to coast guard news via the internet.
so it was kinda neat to actually read it in the paper.....!!

I'd never heard of Captain Stratton until I read that this new cutter would be named after her. Then I did some research and she really was one amazing lady, wasn't she? I bet she IS a legend in Indiana. And I'm sure it's nice to actually read something about the Coast Guard up your way. You probably don't get much CG news normally. I'm originally from South Dakota and don't recall even hearing about the Coast Guard until I moved here to North Carolina back in the late 90's. Now I get lots of info, which is great.

When Danyell was going to OS A School back in late 2007, early 2008, there was a female billet available on the Bertholf. She wanted it so bad but one of the other girls got it. She was boot to A and the other three had some fleet time so they pretty much got what they wanted and she got what was left. : ) Anyway, to answer Jen's question about where the Stratton will be homeported, I have no idea, sorry. I know the Bertholf and Waesche are in Alameda, California but I'm not sure where the Stratton will end up. I tried looking around for some info on that but couldn't find anything. Maybe someone else would know.
