SO DO I HAVE TO HAVE GOOD CREDIT? Credit is a very crucial point in your enlistment process. When we are looking at your credit, we are not looking as heavily at the amount owed, but the monthly payments for debt to income ratio, and more importantly, are you behind in your payments. Do you have charge offs, late payments, repossessions, bankruptcy’s, foreclosures, etc. You cannot have any bad credit for entrance into the Coast Guard. If you are behind in payments or have charge offs, etc, you will need to become current on these issues prior to your enlistment or commissioning. Keep in mind, payment plans are acceptable with documentation and the payment amount will be calculated into your debt to income ratio. Bankruptcy’s are a very sticky area, your recruiter will be able to discuss this issue with you.

| I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords. I'd like to remind them that as a trusted Coastie, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves. |
