FYI--I did something wrong when creating my first file. It has been corrected by changing all my stats to kyuscgmom. I am no longer listed under Paulita. Sorry for the inconvenience. I have been a member since my son went in to BT fall of 2008. If I can help a new CG Mom or Dad get through the BT weeks by answering questions or just giving cyber tissue out, please let me know. Plenty of good souls helped us get through those days.

Jojo, As hard as this is to believe, no news is GREAT! Have you found the facebook page or the blogspot page? Both are a great way to keep connected with other family members. If you have some questions, please feel free to ask away, we have all gone through this or they are waiting to go through it!!! So we'll help as best we can. Welcome Aboard! Macie |

Facebook Group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?g...ref=search Just to let you know, the CC's for Victor 183 are a good group to have leading and teaching them. Chief Peralta wasn't in my chain of command but my experiences with him were always positive in the sense of me learning a lot. I had the pleasure of watching their bus come in at approximately 2230 on 27JUL10 and they all got a wonderful greeting from not only the current CC's but the class full of petty officers there for a course where they were learning how to be CC's. It seemed from our vantage point (50 yards away) that they were more organized and ready to go than most classes coming in and didn't really get yelled at too much. They also weren't getting yelled at nearly as much for the next couple days we ran into them marching around (I graduated on the 30th so I have no idea after that). Like others said, no news is good news so if you haven't heard anything yet, it's safe to assume all is well. Hope this helps and good luck to your soon to be graduate in just a few short weeks. |

JOJO, My son is home for his last leave of the year. I'm sorry to just now get back with you. I see you have had some great responses already. Old Guard passed me my share of cyber tissues. Here are a couple from me that helped me through and after the fact they were right on. 1. This BT time will fly past. You better start planning your trip to graduation. It will be here before you know it! Cape May is beautiful and Graduation is on of the most special days. 2. Your son is in great hands. He really is and everything he is learning right now will not only help others, but it will help him stay safe in his work. 3. Write uplifting notes. Keep them to notes in the case your son has a CC that doesn't go for noise making cards. And remind him to keep his notes in his pouch after reading them. No matter how you feel never say, " I miss you terribly" because he IS already missing you badly. Old Guard reminded me one time we are the cheerleaders right now. That is your job. You are not useless to your son. My son said the letters he got from us helped him get through the harder days. 4. Don't be shocked at how fast and difficult the five week call goes. The CCs only allow them to say a very limited amount of words in a very limited amount of time. Nobody prepared us for this. I was devastated until pepperdoggie and captkyguy explained this was normal procedure. Your son will have other times to call and they will be great talks. So, JOJO, you are going to do very well. You are part of a huge family now. Ask any question and someone will give you good answers. Ignore the smack talk. Some folks like to get on here and say way to much about things they really don't know diddley about. Oh, and it is a good time to start realizing your son will not be able to tell you many things when he goes to duty. He is part of Home Land Security. We don't ask our son and he tells us only what he is cleared to tell us. You will find the Coast Guard Channel on You-tube is fun to watch. Best wishes. kyuscgmom aka paulita |

JOJOMOM, Glad to hear a smile in your words. Sounds like you are feeling some better. Sorry about the JoJo. That's my mom-in-laws name and we are very close. Lots of Josephines and Josephs in my husbands family. he is the Joseph for his generation. My son just returned to his home base late last night after a good ten day visit. We are very proud of him. He appreciates home more than ever and you never will hear "I love you" so much as after they get out on their own. He thanks me for doing his laundry (when he allows me to do it), he can't wait to go to church for every service. We celebrated his birthday while he was home because he will be at work on that day. The house was packed. One thing he HATES is saying good-bye. So, we have learned to let him do it his own way. No production---just let him hug, say I love you, and get out the door. Turns out its easier on everybody that way. Look how time is rolling by. Hope your graduation plans are coming along fine. We stayed in Cape May so we wouldn't get stuck in early morning traffic the day of the ceremony. We stayed at a place downtown called Carroll Villa. They have a discount on Thursday's for military families. All you have to do is let them know you are coming in for USCG Graduation. We enjoyed looking around the little town for a couple of days. They have an on line site---remember these are old bed and breakfast. They were great to us. Several parents/families stayed there and we all talked about how nice it was. Just an Idea. BUT, don't forget there will be crazy traffic on Friday morning if you stay outside of town. Make time for it. kyuscgmom |
