Is there a process for transitioning from the CG reserve as an officer, into an active duty CG officer? If so, how do you do it? What is the process? Is it very difficult to accomplish? Thank you for your time and effort to answer my questions.

No, I am currently an active duty Army Officer, but I want to join the C.G. I am asking because if I cant get into the C.G. as a direct commission active officer or some other way into active duty, I want to go reserve C.G. first and then transition my way into active status C.G.

If you are in reserve and want to go to active duty Officer do you still go through OCS and everything the same, or can you sort of skip some steps since you've already been in the system?

My recommendation would be to wait and go Active! You can become and officer in the reserves through the ROCI training which is 4 weeks, opposed to the 17 week training for the active duty Officer Canidate School. However, from what I have heard, the only way to go full time out of ROCI is to get picked up for on an active billet which is obviously a gamble and also a temporary possision. So, I would say that you get with a GOOD recruiter and one that you are confident in! From there get your OCS packet put togther and submit it as many times as it takes until you get accepted. that is just my recommendation and wish you the best of luck in your career!

i would say go active or not at all or stay in the army. It is not an easy transition from reserve to active. Are you a warrant officer or commisioned officer in the army?

There is also the difference between the reserve commission and temporary commission. I am pretty sure they are both active the difference just is the rules for advancing after O-4. Correct me if I am wrong?

The Reserve Commission is for nonprior enlisted personnel. If you are passed over for promotion twice you go back to civilian life. The Temporary Commission is for prior active duty personnel. If you are passed over for promotion twice you go back to your previous enlisted pay grade, and continue your career. If you want to be an Officer Reservist you would have to be accepted into the Select Reserve Direct Commission Program, which requires prior service.

I might have temp and reserve backward, but either way you get the idea.

I think for temp you need at least 2 or 5 years of active because I'm going for reserve commission? I'm technically prior even though my prior experience is very short?

A temp commission is for current active duty positions. Reserve commission is for civilian, regardless of prior service.

With your BA and time in service you would have a Temp commission. The downside if you got passed over you could potentially go from O-6 to E-3. Good Luck!
