Recruiter called me, the 12th is a federal holiday (Columbus Day).  So it was pushed to the 19th.

Once you are in the service you'll love those Fed holidays... but boy that just messes things up for ship dates! LOL You have one heck of an exciting 2nd half to 2010!! Make sure your bride knows about the site, the blogs, the journals, the facebook area for your company... tell her to not be afraid to ask us questions no matter how big or how small!

Thanks, she's never been on, but I've done my share of talking about this forum to her. she asks me things and is surprised when I know the answer...I call this forum my "easy button."

Oh wow, yeah it will be a shocker! Flying is fun, I think. You're in a pretty area, was up there a year ago for a wedding, in Niceville. What job are you hoping to do in the CG?

I had thought I replied days ago to this.... Yep, I'm sort of familiar with Niceville. I've never been up there. I never really leave hwy 98. Before living in Destin, I grew up in Navarre. They're both really beautiful areas.
IS, and MST have always interested me. I'd probably say in order of preference, 1) IS 2)MST 3) BM. I wish I would have narrowed my choices by now. A-School Waiting list lengths will play in to my final decision.
    61 more days!

Hi guys! Highsurf, I am currently living in southern Alabama. The jobs that interest me are IS and YN. I guess we will see, right? I am going to DEP in a few and for some reason I am nervous! I guess starting this process so long ago, it seems unreal that it is actually happening now. Looks like we will all be spending a few holidays together!

Nikole_ann, Don't be worried about flying! You will be just fine. I love flying. I would rather fly than drive anyday. However, that may have something to do with the fact that i've flown at least 20 times in the last ten years!

    Kendra--
I'm so glad I've finally heard from someone else shipping out on the 19th. I was so nervous this time last year that I ended up not going. :[ Now I wish I would have left last year. But ohhhh well. I feel like i'm absolutely 100% ready now. For a long time I was waivering between the USCG and the AirForce. USCG just feels right. You are from Southern AL? I was born in brewton, al.... but I probably only lived there a month. I've never left FL. I love it here.... but I guess it's time to finally leave!

Has your recruiter told you how you are getting to bootcamp? I'm just assuming I fly out of Pensacola probably....and then eventually land in NJ? And then we all get on a bus? hah.... I havent asked too many questions. His office is in Tallahassee, and I've only met with him once. Everything else has been mailing and faxing forms. It's been a real smoothe process though. I'm thankful for my recruiter.

Those are the rates that I'm planning on choosing between as well (MST, IS). We're all going to be non-rates, doing crap work, for a while (in less you want to be an FS or OS)! We definitely will be spending some holidays together, and my birthday, ha! December 1st, but I'm not planning on advertising that once I'm there!

Nikole, at least you feel more prepared now. I feel so out of shape. I am naturally skinny but I dont feel so skinny on the inside. Pushups are KILLING me. I am looking at districts 5, 11, 8 and 7. What about you? I saw some posts where you wanted Guam so I know 14 is first on your list. Thats cool you already know another girl going with us.

Highsurf, ill make sure I remember that. Ha ha. Just kidding. I promise not to put you on the spot. I have no idea if men and women are ever allowed to talk so heres a happy early birthday for you! Eh, my 27th birthday is in less than 2 weeks and I am NOT looking forward to it. lol.

i've talked to quite a few people leaving for the coast guard soon. it's interesting at their ages. They were all between 24 and 27. I guess those interested in the USCG over the other branches are significantly older than the average age of 18-21 recruits for the AF, Marines and Navy. I wonder why...??

I want to go OS..I'm still working getting a guarantee on that A-School, as I understand it's still critical however; my recruiter called this morning and informed me that there is still work to be done for my entrance into the USCG due to events in my past. Just keeping my fingers crossed.

How about y'all, highsurf1982 and nikole_ann? What would you like to do in the Coast Guard?

    nikole_ann,

Not reserves, I had plans for active duty, but it can't happen until sometime around the spring or summer of 2012 ( My youthful indiscretions are coming back to haunt me once again).

Wish y'all the best with your careers in the Coast Guard. Do well!
