Eat what they put in front you. It's a galley not a buffet. |

And if, after eating, you're still hungry, just walk up to the nice man in the big hat and say: "Please, sir, I want some more." |

The CC's LOVE it when you talk to them during mess call. Your results may vary |

It's also best to get a maximum of 1 dessert per meal. After 1, bad things can happen. |

You burn so many calories, that you will be more than happy to eat whatever they have to offer. |

No question is a stupid question! How else will you know unless you ask. There are very things for you to think about & decide on in boot camp... just do as your told. Good luck... what else do you want to know, someone will have an answer. |

Posted By Americanmade834 on 13 Aug 2010 08:48 PM well that clears things up. sorry for the dumb question but i thought it was a cafeteria style kind of setting where you pick whatever they have. thanks Yes, the food is in a cafeteria style where you get to pick from what they have but your choices are kind of limited. However, most of the food is really good but you only see most of the stuff once or twice while you're there (they do a pretty good job of keeping a variety to choose from). Be nice to the galley staff and they'll be nice to you. If you can get a nice mix of proteins, carbs and veggies at lunch and dinner, then you'll be fine. Don't worry about breakfast as it's powder eggs and either pancakes or french toast everyday (the only meal that never varied). Plus, you'll be too busy to notice you're tired so I wouldn't worry about that either. PS.....if you do want more food, ask the CC's if it's ok to get in line again. They really do love being talked to in the galley |

77. i know...i wish i could have done better but my recruiter was happy with it to send me to meps and really i'm looking to go the way of boatswain's mate. i have a bachelor's degree and along with being an eagle scout he said i could go to boot with E-3 pay. i still am a bit of a wreck waiting on his call. with the budget anything can happen. wish more in the gov't would recognize how far stretched the coast guard is already. |

This might qualify as a stupid question but....did anyone's cc set up traps while in the galley such as put food or drinks out that your not supposed to have? |

Posted By pepperdoggie on 15 Aug 2010 12:45 PM They really like it when recruits walk by the Company Commander table. (the table of death my son called it) We thought of that table the same way.....or like a carnival game with ducks going by and it's just a matter of which duck they're going to shoot down. We started playing a game with it all....especially if one of us was picked off more than the others. Somebody would (unwittingly) run interference and draw the attention away from the rest of our company so we could sneak by the CC table without getting yelled at. We even had one shipmate lose his mind and walk right back up the center aisle . It definitely provided enough cover fire to get the whole company out safely . Some guys loved the table of death (I was one that could be very ninja like and never got called out for anything) and others hated every minute being in there. To each their own I suppose. |

The hot sauce was one of the best things that went with everything (eggs, chicken, steak, enchiladas, rice, etc) and wasn't too hot either....NICE flavor (not too much vinegar). |

trear21, due to possible incrimination of myself i will not tell you what i did as a CC when kids tried to sneak in desserts. Ill leave it at that. Also, The CC table. Yeah if you come within 5 feet of that table you will be in for some serious pain. Heres my 2 cents: Drink lots of water Females-drink lots and lots of milk to aboid shin splints. Have seen countless females become injured because they lacked the calcium intake their bodies required. Eat carbs (bread for energy for the beatings) stay away from dessert if you are close to your wight limit. EAT EAT EAT at the notorious PBJ bar.

Don't be afraid to eat at the salad // soup bar once you're allowed to. The soup was always really good. You may get talked to by the CC's if you do something wrong because it's very visible to them but, I guess just know your required knowledge and know how to respond correctly, and you'll go on your merry way with your soup // salad unscathed!

Eh, don't eat the eggs. The food is not bad at all, I mean I were to have some now I'd probably think differently, but while you are there its great. Chow was my favorite time of the day, besides getting to rack out. Good Luck and just try to blend it only takes one significant mistake to make you a target the whole time, and trust me you don't want that because everyone screws up in boot camp but a lot of it goes un noticed because the CC's are focusing on the targets. It was like that when I went there at least. I mean everyone gets theirs but some people had it way worse. |

The food was surprisingly much better than expected. I never had a bad meal, maybe just a few "memorable" experiences getting caught by a CC for something stupid. lol. The PB and J station...is awesome. During breakfast, they even have a yogurt/oatmeal bar, during lunch and dinner...salad/soup bar. Desserts, hot chocolate, pies, cakes, donuts. I normally had french toast and sausage each morning. Boot camp sure created unique cravings...especially for, what the CC's called, "yum yums". lol. Each night before bed, we were given two chocolate chip chewy granola bars. And for some reason, they were incredibly delicious during boot camp. At home now, I've never had them since. Like Chrisp said (who was also in my company), chow time was a favorite time for all of us.

you can alwys go back up for PB&J... thats what i would do. i used to clean my tray and stand up and get PB&J then eat that and haul out of there before they start the stopping and questioning. remeber to stop and look towards the trash cans to mkae sure there is room for youand step off with your left foot shipmate or you will get stopped, and that is no fun at all. |

i will have to go with Setnicky on this one... i got stopped once while i was there and they asked me my 5th General Order, luckily for me that was the only one that i could remember with all the other stuff we had to know. so as long as you remember your required knowlage you will do fine, if you get stopped. |

what exactly do you mean by "step off with your left foot"? From the table? Or every time you start walking you ahve to start walking with your left foot? |
