Been reading the forums for a few weeks now, haven't registered until now. Great place for some good answers and even a few laughs.
I have been in the works since January of this year. In a few days I'll be at MEPS recieving my medical screening. Assuming I don't get DQ'd for anything unforeseen then I'm out of here by October, or November at the latest. The recruiter reserved me a spot. Super excited but nervous about the medical. Don't have any weight issues, or serious medical concernes. Just worried about something small I hadn't thought of getting me DQ'd since the Coast Guard doesn't give medical waivers.
Anyways, Coast Guard is a career choice for me. I am enlisting and planning on eventually applying for OCS when I've met and gone beyond all the requirements. Hope for a career in Coast Guard aviation, but I'm not holding my breath on that one. Fortunately, I hold a private pilots license so even if I fail to meet the requirements for the rigors of Coast Guard aviation I can still enjoy it personally. If you are interested, I've uploaded some of my personal flying photos to my photo album.
For A schools as enlisted I'm planning on EM, ET was my first pick but it's a 2 year wait... Just like most other A schools. However, EM is one of the few that is open right now, and it happened to be my second pick. Why not AET, or AMT if I'm so interested in aviation? I decided to go with either of these two because I figure it's a very good skill set to have in general. And because all the aviation rates are slow in promotion. As I said, I'm planning on a career and I am looking for opportunity to advance as soon as possible. The main idea being that I didn't want to wait two years for an A school, to get into a rate that has a low rate of attrition amongst it's members, thus slow advancement within the ranks of the Coast Guard. Once I graduate my A-school I'll be on a fast track to promotion, assuming I can meet the demands of the job and perform well! I want to make E-5 as soon as I can.
Anyhow, it's a very supportive group here. I'm glad to be a part of it. Hopefully I have good news about my medical here in the next few days and I'll be sure to update the community with the results. Wish me luck!

Cool pictures civ2...glad a friend’s request allowed me to view them. I sent you a PM regarding my thoughts on MEPS...a lot of it is probably past tense since your visit appears to be in a few days and all of your paperwork and forms probably have been completed and turned in...but I send it as a package deal...all or nothing...lol

Thanks Captkyguy. I responded to your PM. Appreciate your thoughts big time. Keep doing what you do. Spread the word, that's important information. Yeah, I edited the album so that everyone could see them, should work for people who aren't on the friends list now. Thanks for pointing that out. Hopefully some day I'll have pictures of what I do in the Coast Guard that I can share with all the new comers to the USCG forum. Be like you and countless others on here, by being helpful and informative. |
