So here I am. Started the enlistment process around August 2009. Took the asvab in November, In December went to MEPS with no problems. Filled out the E-quip and began the horrible waiting period. My recruiter told me about the wait for a ship date and said He may have an idea for available positions by the end of August. I have made it a point to keep in contact with him since then to reassure him I have stayed out of trouble and continued my running, swimming and push/sit ups. There is nothing I want more than this but I am going out of my mind waiting for news. It's all I think about all day everyday. Anyway I know I just have to sit and take it for now and trust in my recruiter who seems like a stand up guy. Not really a question here but just needed to vent, thanks for reading everyone. |

Americanmade, Hang in there. My son had to play the waiiting game too.(maybe not as long as it is now, but he still had to wait). Trust me it is worth the wait if you really want it. He is not the most patient person in the world, but it finally all worked out. Keep doing what you are doing and good things will come. Good luck to you. H |

American, Once Colin got his ship date and everything was in place, he had contracts to sign and things to go over once more. I asked the recruiter to meet us for a nice lunch. We signed all the papers, got all the official stuff out of the way, made sure all of his guarantees were in writing and then we just had a very enjoyable lunch. I told some of my stories, Chief told some of his stories, Colin told stories from the perspective of a Coastie Brat... we really had a nice time and quite a few good laughs. So taking your recruiter out for an extended lunch or dinner... you can gain a lot of knowledge and have a really good time, too! Hope that date comes in soon for you! Macie |

American, Definately go for the dinner or lunch lol We didn't get to do that, but had always wanted to. Sounds like Macie and Colin had the right idea. If for some reason you are unable to do that, you can do what we did- we wrote a thank you to our sons's recruiter expressing our gratitiude for everything he did. He was so patient with my son's phone calls, questions, etc. He definately pulled for him and we are all still grateful forl his help. Recruiters are such busy people, and I am not sure everyone waiting to get in realizes it. We definately did and wanted to make sure he knew how much we appreciated him. I still feel like we owe him a huge thanks. Hopefully your date comes quick. Be sure to let everyone know when it does. H |

We had lunch with his recruiter and his assistant...then went back to the television station where his Mom was the Manager and signed the papers in her office. Side note...his recruiter ended up buying our '85 Volvo that belonged to my son and the recruiter drove it up to Alaska for his next duty station. (I gave him a really good deal!). This was back in 2002, that Volvo was indestructible. |
