Do brand new Coast Guard members right out of boot-camp usually list the Hawaii district as their first choice? How desirable is Guam and Puerto Rico? Unfortunately I think Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam and Japan are all in the same District. I hope if I list this district the people who receive the dream sheets don't automatically assume I'm hoping for Hawaii. I just want to go live with the BROWN TREE SNAKES in Guam. :/
Of course I will be satisfied with small-town Louisiana, or middle of no-where texas too. Doesn't matter... |

Hawaii and Guam are not in the same district as PR, and I'm not aware of any CG units in Japan. Put down what you want, and hope for the best. |

Ooops. I did bad research. yup, PR is not in District 14. But yea,,.... It looks like there are Japan units/cutters? It's in District 14,..... but it's under the title "Far East Activities" with Japan being in parenthesis. Anyone know about that?? |

Nope. Not everyone puts Hawaii on their list as number one. Many don't even put it on their list. Put what you want on your list. That is how they know you want to go there. Don't try to game the system. Just put what you want on there. Good luck. |

I can tell you Hawaii never once crossed our minds and it still isn't on my ex-husband's radar. It just isn't our (his) cup of tea at all. I don't believe my son would put that as a first pick either having lived on islands and in remote areas of Alaska, he wants something he can drive to somewhere else from! But like Sardaddy & Gears say... just ask! The worst they can do is say no, you go someplace else. Good luck! Every station has the ability to be the best of your career or the worst... a lot is what you make of it, regardless of the location. |

Hey don't be hatin on Hawaii-it's a great place!!! Of course I wouldn't want to be anywhere else It certainly isn't remote! Especially since I just came from South Dakota - where we had to drive 60 miles just to get cell phone reception and you may as well forget about internet access!! |

ZERO desire to be stationed in Hawaii. Visit? Sure. Live there? Not a chance. |

Honestly, if you want PR it is easy to get. Not to many people really want to come to PR, even though it is beautiful... it really isn't for everyone. |

There is a tide in the affairs of men, Which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune.
Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat.
And we must take the current when it serves, or lose our ventures.
