Okay, so I started my BS&S Class last week and tomorrow I will be getting fingerprinted, and filling out the paperwork for the security check. So Excited!!! I am still in the process of getting together my medical records, Resume, letter of recommendation for the reserves but hopefully and with a little luck I will be calling the recruiter in September.

I guess everything worth having is worth waiting for, but I know the waiting can be just torture!! Hopefully they won't torture you for too long. :-)

Yes -I took me almost 6 months to get my card after filling out all the paperwork.  You can still do everything in the Aux you want without the card, still work on quals, take the BSS class, etc etc.

Old post but, Yeah. It typically takes around 6-8 months depending on how busy they are and how long your Commander holds onto it (LOL).

I did the same thing. Joined AUX July 2010, became FSO-NS last month, and ship out to DEPOT on 06MAR11 (coming in as BM3 based on prior career).

How did it work out for you?

    Hey Jen,
Did you get your ID yet? Once you get it, Xerox it (both sides) and put the xerox somewhere safe just in case you loose it. Also, your Flotilla Commander may also be keeping xerox copies of those cards. Some do, some don't. Record keeping in the Aux. varies from unit to unit and from commander to commander.

How are you doing qualifying for stuff? The 'heavy' season is on for most people in most areas of the US and this Weekend (20 May) starts of Safe Boating Week. Even if you're not qualified for anything else yet you can help man a table at a safe boating event and hand out materials and show people how to wear their PFD properly. Remember, every one of those folks you talk into helping themselves is another person the active duty guys might NOT have to rescue.

Have you spoken with your unit's training officer (FSO-MT) about meeting some of the personnel at the local Coast Guard Station? Many Flotillas and Divisions do this periodically to get some "face time" and to learn about stuff. If the local station has a special opportunity for Aux. training, this is a way to find out.
