I was doing a little bit of research on different barracks, and while reading the manual about Cape Cod's Barracks....
I read that heating is supplied but Air Conditioning units do not exist/are not available.

I have lived in FL my entire life, and I guess weather varies around the world,.... but no A/C? Is the weather really THAT perfect in Cape Cod to not supply A/C?
I'm guessing windows must have screens so that you let the air come in from outside, and no bugs/critters will fly in?

silly question,.... I love the outdoors. I spend most of my time outside, but no A/C?    that's funnn.

I grew up in Spokane WA with no air conditioning...never even was in a house with AC and for one to have AC in their car was an elite type status...when we moved to Texas we were told that AC was a must and were thinking what the heck how hot is it there...well neither one of our cars had AC (should have sold them right away) OMG was it hot and I think we ran the AC in the house we got 24/7 even in the winter...you will be surprised how comfortable it will be there in the cool evenings for sleeping. Been in Texas 27 years now and when I visit family in Spokane I am quite chilled normally.

I checked out the average temps for Cape Cod and found that even in August, the average high temp is only 79, with cool nights...so you should be very comfortable. Here's a link: http://www.weather.com/outlook/trav...undeclared

I just spent the last week without AC in Key West, Holy @#$#$@#$@#$ it was not fun to sleep at night. I never used my fan because they have us keep the temp at 65 or lower so it's always freezing cold, to find out my fan isn't balanced lol.

I'm pretty sure if they made it that long without AC, than it's doable. In Germany they don't have AC in their cars or anything, but for like 3 days during the summer it's very humid and muggy and it sucks.

Good to see you are doing some research, was waiting in line for some help at AT&T and a guy said he was set on joining the CG since he was 14, looked about my age(20) but didn't know anything about the CG, and thought in 5 minutes I could lay out every question he wanted to know. Of course I referred him to contact a recruiter or check out this forum.

In July on Cape Cod you will probably want to run the heat at night..

thanks for the info! the dumb question probably makes me seem like a spoiled little brat complaining about no A/C. that's not the case at all! :] I've been driving around in my car for the past 2 years with no A/C. The thermostat has said the outdoor temp has been 103, terrible humidity, and it's been 105+ in my car. My A/C went out in May, and my landlord took a month and a half to replace the compressor, so i can handle no A/C... I guess Cape Cod wouldn't be so bad.
I was just curious about if the no A/C thing was correct.
    thanks again!

I'm more worried about it being cold! I've lived most my life in the South, I can deal with 100+ temperatures for the better part of a year, it's that month when the temperature drops down in the 40s that time seems to move at a snails pace.

sometimes they'll furnish stuff for you and other times it's like renting an apartment and you have to go buy it yourself. When I moved in to bachelor they gave me plates and silverware and a bunch of free stuff, a shipmate moved in 3 months later and got nothing.

And I would never drive in a car with no AC. I had a 65 mustang in high school, if I didn't love my mustang as much as i did(some girls loved it more than me) I would have sold it to drive some regular car with AC. lol.

Not thinking that at all nikole...a very natural question...you have never really been without AC other then your car and waiting on a land lord so having it is a normal thing for you. Like I said I could not grasp why everyone in Texas had AC coming from Spokane until I got here...it is HOT. You will be just fine up there...enjoy!

    Nikole,

I agree with Capt on this one! Why would you think it makes you sound snotty or spoiled? Not at all... I live in Texas as well, there ain't a chance in heck I would live here without air conditioning! Oh no, no, no! But I have also lived in Alaska, no one gave a moments thought to ac. You have kids that grew up there and never traveled outside and don't understand what ac is. You have lived in Florida, to you ac is as natural as breathing. Not a thing wrong with that, not to mention if you have been watching the weather lately the northeast has been under a pretty bad hot spell themselves. So it is a natural thing to wonder about. The Cape does get some wonderful ocean breezes and you will find it 99% of the nights it is comfortable to chilly. You might hit a couple of nights where you want ac but it isn't horrible.

Ask away... no such thing as a stupid question!

District 9 is great!! Both my boys are there and they love it.  Coming for South Texas (where the temp was 103 yesterday) they are loving the weather.  During the winter they had a blast - ice rescue training!!!  They also enjoyed the snow boarding, can't do much of that in South Texas!! They even learned the skills of driving in icy conditions.  Fun Times!! And with the slowdown of A-School they will probably be enjoying Ohio for the next two years.
