Welcome aboard Jay. That's a nice score, hopefully you'll get your ship date in no time at all. Have any idea what you might like to do in the CG? Let us know if you have any questions, we'll do our bes to help out.

Only you can answer which is best... cheesy answer, I know. But you might like working with wires and having the opportunity to have a shocking career but then again stabbing someone, drawing blood, playing Dr. Acula might be the better choice. But you never know, you might get in there and realize there is a career path you never even considered that you absolutely love! Take it slow, look at all the opportunities and then decide which seems to fit you & your personality the best.

Your right old guard...another question anybody know how tough the bootcamp really is? I run close to 4 miles about 3 times a week, i do 50 pushups straight 200 in total and 200 crunches. Im an average or slightly below average swimmer being from new york you dont hit the beach too often ;/ .

    Anyways thanks again,

You will probably do just fine physically. Remember that Coast Guard boot camp is designed to test you mentally and physically. There is a ton of academic classes as well. Lots of memorization. The Company Commanders purposely stress you to the maximum. There's a reason to their method. When you get to the fleet, you must be able to be able to perform under high stress situations at 100%. You must be able to recall information without "looking it up"...You will learn time management skills to the extreme. The high stress/little sleep/physical aspect will make you a better person. It also tends to weed out those who don't have the "right stuff".

If you haven't seen it, take a look at The Coast Guard's Channel's production of "It's Just 8 Weeks". Watch all the episodes. It will give you a good sample of what Cape May is all about.

Then you may not have too much trouble with some of the IT. Heck, you may even find it easy. That just leaves the other 80% of boot camp stress to deal with...

Edit: On the old forum, I would have deleted this post as redundant to Pepperdoggie's...
