I have been looking at http://www.uscg.mil/directives/cim/...20_8G.pdf, however it talks a lot about frame size and i'm not sure if this manual is current? What is the maximum allowable weight for a woman who is 5'6"? and for 5'7"? 160? 165? Not sure? is body fat percentagge done? I am scheduled to go to MEPS to DEP-in on September 9th. If I am over my maximum allowablel weight by a pound or two, can I schedule to go back to MEPS in a week? I am scheduled to ship-out on October 19th. I heard that if I fail my weight test, then I have to wait like SIX MONTHS before I can go back? is that correct? I wonder if I tell my recruiter that I need to wait another week or two before i DEP in, if that will change my ship-date? The DEP process date shouldnt affect my ship-out date, will it? Isn't it even possible to DEP-in up to a week before I ship-out? I am not doing the whole physical process. I've already had all of it done and on file. The only thing I am doing at MEPS is the weigh-in, urine drug screen and the swearing in thing....... |

I don't have the chart for height and weight in front of me, but you will have to be under your MAW in order to get in. Body fat, etc don't come into play until you're already in. If you're over let your recruiter know, and takes the necessary steps to get under your MAW. If you are 1 pound over, MEPS can stop you from shipping. |

Recruiters, Isn't is that you have to DEP in for 30 days minimum prior to shipping to boot?? I thought that was mandatory?? I could be wrong, Colin never did DEP but that was 18 months ago and I thought things had changed. Not sure but Nikole, be sure to ask!! Macie |

It goes by weight until you are out of BC, then you can do the body fat percentage. Even then, I wouldn't depend on the body fat percentage, the way the CG does it(at least at our sector) it's totally unreliable. |

I am 5"9 or 69 inches, I am a built guy and have done alot of weight lifting....are they really going to expect me to cut my muscle mass to be in spec of the 187lb's for my height?
and are there any recommended weight cutting programs for uscg?

They will absolutely expect you to be within the weight requirements. They generally expect you to be a good 5lbs UNDER your max allowable. |

You will need to switch from bulk weight lifting to cardio and swimming and cardio mixed in with body weightlifting...push-ups, chin-ups, sit-ups and those types of things with a good diet. But yes, as Old Guard states, you absolutely must be within weight...even 1 pound will get you sent home. Start the cardio...

Lifting just builds muscle and adds mass = adding weight. I wouldn't stop completely or the mass will look like jell-o in the hot sun. But I would curtail it and add more cardio, swimming that sort of thing. How much do you weigh? What are you looking at having to lose??? |

You have one thing going for you... You are in good physical condition, yes you have about 40 pounds to lose, but it isn't potato chips, ben & jerry's, doritos that you have to lose. It's just weight. So being in shape, hopefully that will make it a little easier to do. |

RIGHT, I just dont know what to do....not do as much strength training like lighten the weights and increase cardio amounts or what to do....one thing I know I need to improve on is the simple stuff because i feel like im going to die after 50 pushups in a row or my back gets really tight after 38 situps lol |

Posted By Uscg_hope on 02 Sep 2010 05:01 PM i feel like im going to die after 50 pushups in a row or my back gets really tight after 38 situps lol Those are what you need to work on...body weight only...no weights...then run, walk, run, walk, run and then swim, swim, swim, swim, swim, then a little diet and you will shape up just fine.
Lots of flutter kicks as well. Keep us posted on how you are doing! |
