Ill be going back home in November after I graduate Boot Camp, I was wondering if I will be allowed to wear my Tropicals when I surprise an old teacher of mine at school that I became very good friends with? She was a very inspirational teacher that helped through tough family times my sophomore of high school so we became very close, I think nothing would make her happier than to see me in my new CG uniform. Any help would be awesome!

Trops are authorized for civilian interaction. Make sure you have everything correct and dont go places that would bring discredit to the service. |

What does the term "tropicals" refer to? |

It's the uniform that looks almost exactly like an Air Force summer uniform, which I'm sure means absolutely nothing to you. The "official" name is "Tropical Blue" and it's likely called that because it is more comfortable in the tropics than the full dress or service dress uniform with the jacket and tie. Specifically, it consists of dress blue slacks and a light blue shirt without a tie. Proper head wear varies and is usually specified in orders authorizing or requiring the uniform to be worn. Wouldn't that be Bravo time then though? Since it will be in the winter? |

After bootcamp I went to my old two jobs wearing trops, my coworkers were all really stoked to see it. One of the cool things about that first post - boot camp week!

Tropical blue uniform is authorized year round. 3.B.10. Tropical Blue Occasions for Wear Wear Year Round Worn year-round at all occasions where coat and tie are not required or expected. You may be thinking of the Winter dress blue which is usually worn starting November 1 through the 31st of march |

The training centers usually require a certain uniform for different times of year... SDB for fall/winter and Trops for spring/summer. Otherwise, like Chukles posted above you wear the appropriate uniform for the event no matter what time of year it is.
