Hi Everyone,
I know we have all talked about the how's & when's to rent a place when transferring. I like Craigslist, but I use it with extreme caution. Here is case in point! I am moving to Wisconsin in a few weeks so I am starting to look for a place. I saw one that looked great, everything that I would absolutely love and the right price. So I respond to the ad. It all sounds good... I fill out an application, it was a very generic app, no personal info like social security number or checking account so I was ok, just name, address, current landlord thing. Well I get an email back within an hour, I have been approved because of my excellect references and credit check... hmmmm, no references, no info for a credit check to be done... Just Western Union the deposit & first month's rent to WEST AFRICA then they'll DHL the lease & the keys to me in 24 hours!
OOOOOOHHHHHH REALLLLLLLLY! Now I know most of us are smart enough to just need stitches to put our guts back together when we get done laughing so hard... But there are so many scams out there!!!! There are also people that are desperate enough to think they had better send that money right away so they know they have a place. Even though it is to West Africa and you haven't seen the inside and there is no way references were checked (especially since none were provided)... So use things to look prior to getting somewhere, but please don't do anything until you can touch, feel, smell your surroundings it really is important!!! Living in a hotel for a few days isn't that bad, losing 1000, 1200, 1500 dollars and STILL have no place to live... that is bad, very bad!!!
I just don't want to see a post on here from a young couple talking about how they lost all their money in a scam and now are desperate! I didn't fall for it, and I'm certain most of us wouldn't either, I just wanted to point out how this is all so easy!!! |

Saw the same thing over and over again on Craigslist, but found a place through it! Used a junk email and asked for pictures of the interior. Typically the cons would come back with the same exterior photo! The thief's are getting smarter and more techno as each day passes. Thanks for posting Old Guard, and trust me when I say I am not laughing, I am scowling because of the scum that does this!

| I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords. I'd like to remind them that as a trusted Coastie, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves. |

Can't tell you how many African Lottery's my wife has won and other array of contests that we have never even heard about let alone entered...We would be billionaires over and over again... then there is the credit card scares…the ones where the bank calls you about excessive use and to call them back with your info so that they can get things stopped for you…oh my they are scum indeed and all should be...I will be nice and leave it at that. Be careful and apply common sense to things y'all...
