I know you get 5 days leave after graduation (assuming nothing substandard happens).

I am shipping October 19th, I'm assuming we'll graduate around the 20th.  Being so close to Christmas, will we get less/more time due to the holidays before we have to report?

Also, where could I find current moving policies/procedures?  I will be married and an E2 (not sure if that is needed info or not).  Thanks!

OK Good news bad news. you will get 5 days leave after basic no extra leave because the USCG is a 365 days commitment. You might get to your first unit and they might hook you up or not no one can tell you that. The moving is the easy part if you let it be. You will leave yoru wife/husband at home (sorry dont know if you are a male or femail) they pack the house and ship it to where you are getting stationed and then move in. You mgiht be moving some where that has housing or might not and you will ahve to find a place. So i would say make sure the other person understands to save some money because you will have moving expenses these can be reimbursed for some of them or get advances but you will need to keep it in mind. i am figuring you are about 27 or so im guessing you have a decent head on your shoulder. and i think you will be graduating in the week closer to the 12 or so but i mgiht be wrong i havent got back into the swing of things any questions feel free to pm me and i will try to help

This is a question that comes around every holiday season. Don't expect to be granted any extra time around the holidays. The Coast Guard Mission continues 365 day a year. The Military does not stand down because it's a holiday.Is it possible you could get a couple of extra day...sure. But don't count on it. I am posting a link to the Coast Guard "Spouse's Handbook"...there is some VERY valuable info. Both you and your spouse should thoroughly read through it...it will answer many questions. They will also go over all your entitlements in a very thorough manner in the latter part of boot camp. Here's the link, I suggest you save or print it for future reference. My son-in-law graduated from Cape May last December 22nd and we flew home on the 23rd. We spent a restful Christmas holiday albeit only a couple of days. His first station was Winchester Bay Oregon and his report day was somewhere around the first of the year. Since he was traveling by car and his orders are from Cape May to Oregon (across the country) he was given additional days as travel days on top of the five leave days he earned in boot camp. He and my daughter loaded everything they could possibly need for a month into their car and off they went. Their stuff was picked up by the military movers and delivered to Oregon a month or so later. Since my daughter left with her husband they had to put me down as a point of contact so I could account for all of their belongings prior to the movers packing it all up. (Make sure this is OK to do)

My daughter was notified by the movers around week 5 or 6 asking where their belongings were and how much they had. They needed to send the right sized truck and boxes. My son-in-law took care of all the paperwork at boot camp probably around the time he got his dream sheet pick.

Once at his station they reported and they were given more time to find a place to live, I think it was something on the order of 10 days. This may vary unit to unit and situation to situation. Married is a little different than single when reporting. Hope this helps.
