Hello to all the recruiters out there and hoping I could get a hopefully easy question answered. Heres my situation. Last year met with my recruiter, took the asvab, then passed meps. Basically waited since January for the great FY2011 slots. Last Friday my recruiter told me they do indeed have slots available and for me to give him a date that I would like to go to boot camp. I emailed him with my preference and he said he would put in the request. My question is how long does the request take to go through. Will I find out within a couple of days or am I looking at another couple of weeks to find out when I can dep in. I've waited so long for this and just grateful to be this far in the process and cant wait to serve my country. Thanks again to everyone in advance.

The turn around is usually a week or so, you're recruiter will schedule you to DEP sometime after that. At this point your recruiter is going to be your best source of info. Just ask him/her.

oh i will, and yes the wait is the worst. i long for the day i can graduate from boot, take leave before my first duty station and walk into my old jobs wearing my tropical blues. also another question. i was looking to set up a new debt card account from my current one for boot camp. I was thinking chase bank since they are pretty wide spread throughout the country, but what about armed services bank. can i open an account with them if I am not yet in the military. between the two, and can anybody recommend one or the other.

Thanks captyguy, if the timing works the way i want it, I'll be getting married in March, then have enough time for the honeymoon, then ship off to boot. I'm glad I have a fiance who is willing to follow me on this journey.

Go to USAA.com, they are an exclusive military bank.

Chase is a great bank, I have them, I have never had any problems, their customer service is top notch whenever I have had to call for something... Colin had them, too. They are not in Boston or as far as I can tell anywhere in the New England area. So while they seem to be everywhere, apparently they aren't! LOL

I agree with Gears... go to USAA. You will not have a local bank, they have no branches. However, they are a military bank, they treat their people really well and there are almost no fees for anything. I had USAA when I was married to Jim, he still has the same account there. Colin has USAA, it is a really good bank. I know some people have set up accounts prior to shipping out to basic. Colin set his USAA account up while he was on his 5 days between boot & station. His pay was direct deposited to his Chase account. Once he got his direct deposit set up, he closed out Chase and he has never regretted that decision.

We were also in the movie Leviathan starring Peter Weller. Think Alien underwater... a true classic.

Starring Amanda Pays, Mrs. Corbin Bernsen. Much better looking than Peter Weller.

Leviathan was one third of the 1989 underwater trifecta, along with The Abyss and DeepStar Six...

The difference is the Abyss starred Ed Harris and was awesome. Leviathan was crap. The CG bet on the wrong horse with that one.

The Abyss was easily the best of the three but I liked DeepStar Six also. Nice little monster movie, suspenseful and a great cast. Kind of like Tremors, but without the humor.

LOL...heck the building is a loss might as well protect the important stuff...our ride home!

It is hard to tell from the picture but it looks like they also have a line on the back side, protecting the building next to it, they probably need a line for the building across the street as well, no idea what is on the left side…and it also looks icy and cold...berrrrr.

We had a crew in this similar situation...they arrived to a fully involved apartment complex with all 4 units on the front side on fire, flames raging every direction. They were confronted with minimal access which forced them to park a little too close and sure enough the radiant heat damaged their fire engine...had to pull an additional line to spray it down to keep it from being totaled along with the apartments...

Macie, keep your mind right where it is. I use it as a gauge to determine if the gov't has perfected mind control. Free thinking wins for one more day.

American, yes... The same Peter Weller from Robocop.. and another sci-fi atrocity called Screamers.

Chase is a pretty good bank and they are in all 50 states. My sister signed up with Navy Federal and now that she's stationed in Alabama, she has to drive 45 minutes to Pensacola to get to a bank. Not a good deal.

It all depends, I guess. I spoke to my recruiter on a Tuesday and he called me with my confirmed ship date the following Thursday.

I just went to my Chase log on, I entered the address for the base in Boston to find a branch. Nothing within a 50 mile radius. Chase may be in all 50 states, I'm not sure about that, but I can tell you that doesn't mean they will be close to your location. If they are in Alaska, they might not be on Kodiak, they might not be in Valdez... one location is an hour flying time to Anchorage, the other 4.5 hours driving. Since Colin doesn't have a license and at a minimum the nearest Chase bank is at least 51 miles away, that's not good either.

USAA is really the best choice for military members.

Today is one of the best days of my life...My recruiter called me today to say my date has been set! April 19th 2011. I requested the April date because Im getting married in March and so happy everything fell into the place. I want to thank everyone here for helping answer my questions up till now and there most likely will be more to come. I waited so long to hear this news and now that it's come I still can't believe it. I dep in next month and all I can do is keep training hard and memorize my general orders. Gonna bury my nose in that Helmsman!

Congrats on the ship date! Do a google search for The Guardian Handbook.. It goes indepth, and should be a great help to you.

While you're at it check out the movie ThanksKilling... It's the Citizen Kane of bad cinema.
