I ship to BC in January, and Im also submitting an OCS package next week. Its my understanding that the OCS panel will make selections in May.

IF I get selected, what happens between the time Im selected and when I transfer to OCS? I will only be at my first duty station for 4-5 months, so I was just curious what I would be doing. Of course my specific duties wouldn't change but is it like a lame-duck period or something?

It depends on the unit that you get stationed at. At a small boat station you would be subjected to back to back qualification deadlines like any other non-rate for the first 6 months to a year or until you got picked up by OCS panel.

Maybe I don't fully understand processes or anything yet but I feel like that is quick change over from enlisted (?) to OCS.  I thought you needed more time and rank under your belt as opposed to applying from out of the service.  I'm probably wrong, but I'd like to be corrected so that I know for the future.

As per my recruiter, If I submit my OCS package BEFORE I swear in, I can bypass the E5 requirement. Thats my understanding. I prefer to go to OCS, but Im enlisting in the mean time...

What E-5 requiement are you talking about? If you have a degree there is no such rule.
