I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am prior service Air Force and was discharged with a RE code of 2B is it possible for me to join the coast guard?

The Coast Guard is probably the most selective of the 5 branches of the Military. From what I read, you were apparently discharged from the Air Force under less than favorable conditions. If this is the case, you would have very little chance of being considered. If you give more information, we might be able to help you out more.

From about.com: "RE-2B- Discharged under General or other-than-honorable conditions"

One of the recruiters on this forum will be able to help you further. It would be helpful if you could tell us what the nature of your discharge was and what circumstances existed. Right now, and for the forseeable future the Coast Guard is granting almost no waivers. If you don't feel comfortable discussing your sitiuation on a public forum, you could send a private message to Chukles, the forum moderator and an active duty recruiter.

    Good luck.

It says that I was discharged for a pattern of misconduct, code JKM. I researched the 2B RE code and it say that I am eligible re-enlistment as long as the circumstances of the discharge no longer applied.

I have no idea what issues caused your discharge. A "bad conduct" discharge under less than honorable conditions would probably eliminate any possible enlistment into the Coast Guard. As I mentioned earlier, the CG is probably the most selective of all 5 branches. Right now, thousands of fully qualified applicants are waiting for their chance to join, so I would venture that you have very little if any chance on enlistment. One of the recruiters will be along to chime in on this issue, but I'm afraid your prospects are bleak.

    Best wishes

I would say with that code and pattern of misconduct you have almost no chance in the coast guard. If i remember right they want a reenlistment code of 1 to reenlist right now.

    +1 Southern

An RE code of 1 is required for enlistment right now. However, your best resource would be a local recruiter who can review your case with you in detail. Depending on the nature of the RE-2 and the circumstances surrounding it you may have a shot however slim.
