    Hello,
I have a few questions about trying to join the coast guard after i leave the navy:

    1.  Do I have to go to CG Bootcamp?
    2.  I want to do the Maritime Law Enforcement rating, how difficult is that to get?  I am very interested in this rating.
    3.  What is the age cutoff?
    4.  My other rating choice would be HS, because i am currently a hospital corpsman.  Would that be easier to get?

Thanks for your time in advance.  I would really like to move to the Coast Guard!

Yes, you will have to go to boot camp. Although a truncated version.
If you qualify by ASVAB and Physical, the ME rating is not difficult to get. All schools in the Coast Guard have a minimum 1 year wait due to space availability.
Age cut off is adjusted by constructive age. Your recruiter will be able to crunch the numbers for you.
HS is the same route as ME initially. HS is not on the open rate, so your recruiter will best be able to guide you.

The kicker to this, is you will drop to E3 upon entry into the Coast Guard. If you are within 6 months of separation, get with your recruiter now. You will need to start the recruitment from scratch. New Test/Phys etc. The delays for entry can be lengthy.

Thank You chukles for your info. So if I'm understanding this right, i would come into the coast guard as a non rate for 1 year. is this correct? thanks again.

Looking at a minimum of a year, and possible 2 or more years. It all depends on school availability.
