Hello all! My name is Alex, I am 25 years old and I live in Brick, NJ. I frequent this site for any of my Coast Guard related questions and I truly find the answers that I a looking for. I have been pursuing the CG for about 6 months now and I have been doing a lot of waiting and a lot of calling to the recruit office. I recently received my USCG Applicant Package and faxed that over to the recruiters and was then told to call back on Jan. 3, 2011 for a possible appointment. I eat, sleep, and dream Coast Guard. My fingers, and my family's fingers have been crossed for quite a while, I just hope that everything will work out in my favor. |

Yup, made the call yesterday and the recruiter told me that he still has to review my applicant package. He said he will be giving me a call which he said could take a few weeks, and he will let me know from there. A little more waiting to do on my end but I hope it's all going to work out for me. Thank you for showing some interest in my situation, it means a lot knowing that other people are pulling for me. |

Good luck! Best advice I can give you is to ask questions. do your homework and ask about anything you want information on, especially if you already know the answer! I must have had 25 questions in my note book to ask and then I had about 3-5 follow up questions when I was given an answer. The way I see it is, this is the next four years of your life, you need to be absolutely sure this is the right decision for you, but after reading your first post - you seem pretty sure about wanting to be a coastie, so the best of luck to you! Show that recruiter you want nothing less! |

It went very well. I got my appointment for my ASVAB and physical at MEPS this upcoming Tuesday, 25 January. I've been studying for a few weeks, but now I definitely have to keep on it. |

Got back today from a 2 day experience at MEPS. I took my ASVAB yesterday, my score was good enough to qualify for all but 3 jobs (none which I was upset about). Did my physical today and everything went well. So here's the awful part, we get to our hotel and after checking in I immediately go to the restaurant for dinner, while finishing up my last bite of food the fire alarm goes off. No one thinks anything of it and continues with what they were doing. About 10 mins goes by and a hotel employee tells us that we need to evacuate the building due to the alarm. It ended up being a blown transformer which started a minor electrical fire in the building. This was all going on around 830-9:00 by the way. Long story short, the hotel was deemed "uninhabitable" and we had to be shipped off to another hotel a couple miles down the road. Finally got to bed around 1230 and was woken up by a 330 wake up call. Talk about a bad MEPS experience! |

Well if that doesn't go down in the record books as one for the ages, I don't know what does!! Sorry it sucked that bad but you still made the nest of it and it isn't something you are likely to forget! Prepare for more of those unexpected moments... after all you are going into the military! |

Met with my recruiter today, went over my e-QIP and filled out some more paperwork. Finally got to hear some news that I had been dreaming to hear, requested for a ship date March 22. The ball is rolling!! |
