I know that's not as good as speaking to your son but you know he is there and he is doing ok! He'll call... if he doesn't we will all be with you when you give him a swift kick in the tail feathers for making you worry so much! |

I SPOKE TO HIM!!! He's fine. Too many were using the phone and it was time for them to leave, that was his reason - goodness gracious I could have died of a heart attack!! Thank God for you guys - Southern 118, Pepperdoggie, Trisch and Old Guard 2 - you all kept me sane. He sound so mature, detailed, happy and enthusiastic about his upcoming adventure Northeast. I'm so darn happy - I could SCREAM! I feel honor to be part of such a loyal family - USCG FAMILY! Hope I will see you all Thursday night at Cabanas. I definitely would like to meet you all. Thanks guys - you're the best!! |

My dtr. called this morning. it was soo good to hear her voice. She is being sent to USCG Station New York in Staten Island. But she doesn't want me buying plane tickets yet (graduation is March 11) because she is afraid they are going to send her home because she is struggling with her push-ups. She has passed everything else but her push-ups. So now I'm not sure what to do about the plane tickets. Any advice? |

If you buy with Southwest, you can change them easily - or cancel them. All they ask is that you pay the difference in fare at the time of the change. And if you cancel, you have one year to use the credit. Plus... bags fly free! I doubt they would send her home because of push-ups. If anything they might keep her another week or so (she'd join a company behind hers) until she gets them down.

they wont send her home, she'll just get held back until she can pass. She has to do an hour of extra pt every morning to focus on her situps. |

Question: What type of transportation is available from Atlantic City airport to USCG training center (under 21)? There are no greyhound buses, train service nor one way car rental (must be over 25 for rental).

That could be a sticky wicket. Transportation in NJ is truly severly limited. It is fine in the northern half of the state, but south Jersey can really be pretty bad. |

My dtr called yesterday and said the CG is not reimbursing her trip to her duty station in new York. She will have to drive there from Dallas with her stuff and truck. I was really hoping she would get reimbursed some. |

The problem is she is being transferred from Cape May to New York, not Dallas to New York. They already paid once getting her to NJ. NY is only about 4 hours away. Thay won't pay again. Having just left Ft Worth a couple of months ago & all of my family living in central Jersey, I can tell you I did the drive in 2 days. Pulled out at 5am, stopped for the evening, left again at 5am and got in around 5 that night. It isn't that bad of a drive. She should be fine. |

However, the CG should move her " stuff " (household goods) for her from Dallas to New York. Driving her truck is her own responsibility. |

My dtr seems to think they won't move her things either. But if she has to drive her truck then taking her stuff isn't any problem. I will double check with her when she calls next. |

pmriley - The CG moved my son's stuff from South Texas to Ohio. He drove his car to Ohio and so he had to leave early and use some of his off time to be able to report to duty on time. He graduated on a Thursday. We flew home on Friday and he left on Sunday to drive to Ohio. It took him 2 days, arrived on Tues. afternoon and had to report on Wed. morning. He got some type of payment because they told him to keep his receipts for gas and hotel expenses. The mover's showed up at my house on Monday morning and loaded his stuff up. They were pretty fast about getting his things to Ohio because they got to Ohio on Thursday with his stuff. |

By the sounds of it because my dtr is stationed so close to cape may, that the CG will not reimburse for any travel expenses. She graduates on Friday and we will leave from our home in Texas on Sunday for new York. She has to report in by that Thursday morning. I am looking forward to the road trip with her. Mother/daughter bonding time!! |

They'll pay her whatever it costs to drive from Cape May to new duty station. They'll pay to move her stuff from place of enlistment to new duty station. This was/will all get laid out monday of week 8 with a class on how to move, wed if you decide to ditty move than you'll pick up your papers then where they further will explain it, and you have to sign saying they explained it. |

I can remember when my son Gary went to Officers School in CT back in 2009. Gary and his came home for a week before he drove up to CT to start his training. I had alot of mixed emotions but I listened to him and saw the enthusiasm in his eyes and heart. I cried the day he left but at the same time my heart was full of pride. I knew this is what he wanted for himself and his wife, to make a career in the Coast Guard. I beemed with pride come graduation day. Gary is at his second post in Florida and in flight school. He recently sent me pictures of his solo flight. My heart was in my throat when I say that plain take off and I regained my composure quickly when I saw it land again. I keep in mind this is what he wants and I will support him all the way. I'm so proud he is serving his country and doing what he loves. As a mother we will always worry and go on those emotional roller coasters when it comes to our children. As a Coast Guard Mom I will support my Coastie all the way. |
