Ok so lets say someone fails A school, for example they just can't pass the PT part of it. What happens to this person? Can they continuously try until they pass? Do they have to switch Rates?

What if they can't for instance get the Secret clearance level required? What would happen to them?
    It's Hammer Time!!

Some of the 'A' schools are harder to pass and some of them are easier to pass. While you may get more than one chance on some things, you don't get unlimited tries. If you do wash out for any reason, you get sent back to the fleet as a non-rate where, after a waiting period, you have the opportunity to apply to any 'A' School you want, including the one you washed out of previously. However, after a couple of those cycles your enlistment will run out and you will not be given the opportunity to re-enlist.

Like was said before it depends on the A school. In my BM class we had 2 guys who never even came close to passing th PT test but they passed them and the class behind ours a guy failed the PT test and they kicked him out. It all just depends on who is in charge and their mindset at that time.

If you need secret clearance for a certain job and you fail your background check you will not be allowed to do that job as far as I know.

The key is to pick a school and rating that interests you. If you pick something just because you feel that it is easy or to get to school quicker, you will be opening yourself up to failure and years of misery.

The whole purpose of the ASVAB testing is to determine the rates that you have the aptitude to successfully complete and work in.

If you are qualified to get into a certain rate, you have the ability to complete it- however, you will still have to study and etc.

To answer your question; yes you can fail A school.  I have seen it happen quiet a bit(mainly due to mixed up priorities, partying, not studying, and etc)

If you are worried about particular PT requirements, all I can tell you is to start getting into shape now.  Do not wait until you are against the wall or you will fail or worse... hurt yourself.  Coast Guard PT requirements for LE and etc are beyond lame.  There is no reason to not be able to easily work  yourself to a passing level.  If you are worried about your security classification, dont worry.  If you do not have the required clearance, you will not be attending the school until you have it.

If you fail an A-School, you will most likely be sent back to your previous unit or to a cutter.
