Good Morning All. I just joined the forum and am very excited to be here. I am seriously considering the USCG Reserves and joined here for some much needed advice/guidance in making this life changing decision. I am 37 years old and have former Federal Secret Clearance as an Air traffic Controller. Additionally, I hold my BS in Education from Cortland State University of NY and was a Physical Education teacher for just under 3 years. Needless to say, I am still searching for what I was "meant to be" in life. I married my HS sweet heart and have been together for 19 years. We have 2 beautiful boys, Joe Jr (9) and Aidan (6). I have the full support from them to become a USCG Reservist which means the world to me. (see my profile for my professional description)

I guess what I am looking for other than overall advice/guidance is to have a few basic questions answered by people that really know. I have read all over the net conflicting reports of age requirements. I read from the USCG Reserve website that the maximum age to enlist is 39. I read elsewhere it was 35. I even spoke with my local recruiting office via telephone this past October and they advised me it is 35. What's the deal?

I also found enlisting as an Officer in Reserves confusing. As previously mentioned, I have my Bachelors Degree. Can I be an Officer in the Reserves or do I need to serve the 3 year minimum full-time duty to qualify as Officer? I have no problem starting from the bottom and working my way up. in fact, I almost prefer that so I can prove myself and earn my way up the ladder. It's just good information to know.

Anyway, glad to be a part of the community and I look forward to speaking with you all.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I am very interested in a career as a Paramedic and Search and Rescue Specialist.

    Thanks!

Anyone know if there is a specific "MOS" to EMT/Paramedics?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not believe that the USCG have an MOS, and I think they're called Rates. Good Luck with your Endevours!

No specific rate (MOS), the AST's (rescue swimmers) go through EMT training.
